My interests combine microbial ecology and biogeochemistry. I am particularly motivated to study the effects of disturbance on microbial community composition and activity. These curiosities have led me to pursue the following research questions:
1) how does altering an ecosystem’s chemical profile modify microbially mediated nutrient fluxes?
2) under what conditions do microbial communities enhance our predictions of ecosystem processes?
3) how does prior environmental and genetic variation inform microbial responses to disturbance?
4) to what extent can we use assembly processes to understand the activity of functional groups?
